The only sensible solution is to kill the fatties.
this.
If only a percentage of people had car insurance, accidents would be bankrupt people and drastically effect their lives in a negative way.
But since everyone has it (for the most part), car insurance is cheap, and getting into an accident isnt a life ruiner. Not to mention, car insurance is affordable due to competition from so many companies to fill a huge demand.
its not a perfect analogy, but it works. I know theres a big stigman against the federal govt getting involved, but it already is. And something needs to be done immediately.

I dont see the problem with social support programs, its for those that dont have all the advantages I've had in life, or have experienced difficulty and hardship I have only read or heard about. I even understand that some people just arent as hard working as the others. Sure there will be those that abuse the system but the good outweighs the bad and because I care for my fellow man and want to see him/her succeed.
Government imposed eugenics and/or rationed care, are about the only things that will make the proposed system viable as a means to fulfill the promise of lowering costs.
eugenics?
what the hell?
what the hell?
Yeah. Kill the infirm. Preferably in the womb.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you're not really sure what eugenics means.
Deny life saving treatment to the old because even with it they're still going to die why pay $65,000 grand for an operation that will only give them a year more to live and only moderately improve their quality of life when we can save that money and let them die sometime in the next 2 months.

Usually because someone's got words.
I guess I'm just providing the information, though. Take from it what you will.
Yeah, what you're describing is euthenasia, and it's an equally silly argument.
If "socialized medicine" is good enough for our veterans, why not for all of us?
Eugenics is the process of trying to only have humans with "desirable traits" determined by humans have the ability to reproduce.
Abortion effectively eliminates that ability doesn't it?

Actually VA benefits won't qualify as being a health care plan. Tricare will which is for active duty families and retirees but not your typically veteran.

We'll get that option too down the road I'm sure.
bring on the euthanasia and eugenics.
Please.
Please.
They say that most of the healthcare expenses are in the last few years of a person's life... what about "free healthcare until you're just about dead, and then you're on your own bucko"?
The first thing people need to agree on is that we are mortal. Just because the technology/procedure exists, doesn't mean you (or we) can afford it.
We should just implant little lights in everyones wrist that start flashing once you hit a certain age.

"How old are you?"
"I turn red next year."
"Why, you've got years left!"

I think I saw LeVar Burton read a book like that one time on Reading Rainbow.
I loved that show.
RENEW! RENEW!
It was a movie... Gattica
there were no flashing wrist lights in gattaca
try logans run
yeah man
gosh
gosh
It was Meet the Robinsons.
gattaca was with the genetic testing gone awry and the dude with the heart problem and he swam farther than his stupid genetically perfect brother because he didn't save anything for the swim back and also ASTRONAUT
I stand corrected. Confused my eugenics movies.
AAAANNNYYYWAAAYYSSS
who's signing up for govt health care?
who's signing up for govt health care?
I think you all are, comrade.
I'm covered under my family's plan, so I won't bother right now.
Eventually, though, I'm sure I'll be checking it out.

I didn't say that.
In fact I'd be pleased as punch if they had a voluntary government program where low-income families that couldn't afford coverage or people who have been denied coverage could enroll at a subsidized affordable rate that was partially supported by my tax dollars.
That would be far preferable than what is being proposed.
what IS being proposed?
GENOCIDE
low-income families that couldn't afford coverage or people who have been denied coverage
It's supposed to be for low/middle income people who can't afford coverage, and don't trust a private company to not fuck them over. And if the private companies weren't focused on health-denial and legalistic legerdemain as tools to improve their share prices at the cost of the lives of those they've deceived into thinking they're covered, a public option wouldn't be required.
But since every private insurance company out there has proved it cannot be trusted and that prices are inflated to cover the sheer amount of office maggots and the outrageous salaries of CEOs, people should have every right to seek out services that are both dependable and affordable.

I believe that mandatory coverage is now being floated around, which is one of the main points of contention.
Probably what Drock is referring to.
what IS being proposed?
Short version:
1. Everyone HAS to have a coverage plan, there will be financial penalties if you don't.
2. All plans have to comply as to what coverage is within 5 years or they won't qualify as a plan.
3. The government will provide a public option. You will pay into it if you choose it. Your rate will be different depending on how much you make. Those who make more will subsidize those who make less or nothing.
4. You can keep your old plan if you like it. Your employer probably will dump you off once the public option is available. Since they probably pay more for your ass than the penalty they would have to pay for not offering you a plan.
5. Your doctor's will not be the primary determining factor of your treatment on the public plan, gotta show that it saves money somehow.
could enroll at a subsidized affordable rate that was partially supported by my tax dollars
I feel this is your biggest gripe with what is being proposed Drock. Correct me if I'm wrong. You'd like to see a system wasnt entirely dependent on the All American Tax Dollar?
doctor's recommendation*
You'd like to see a system wasnt entirely dependent on the All American Tax Dollar?
Yes. I would. If the government claims it can run this show smoother and better than the current companies then they should be able to without it being wholly paid for by taxes.

Uh.. so, they're gonna hold a bake sale or something?
We'll stay in Canada, or we'll visit the private clinics that will still be operating within the US because our own systems are being scuttled from the inside.
No. The premiums paid plus the awe-inspiring cost cutting and super efficiency of government run things (lol) + some tax dollars should be good.
Plus: who the fuck are these people who can't read the damned proposals and think that everything FOX news says is the gospel truth, then go out and prove they're dumber than a sack of busted axehandles? Are they being paid to be retards? Can't they find real jobs?
i'll have you know professional imbecilism is a respectable career
he premiums paid
If the gov't takes money from you, it's a tax.
professional imbecilism is a respectable career
That definitely explains Keith Olbermann and Glenn Beck
