I believe in Okie State. Not the other two.
I hope KU does well, but all I really want is to beat the snot out of Mizzou.

Doesn't matter. Notre Dame will have a new coach next year anyway. This is a transition year.

Good lord, who'd the Ole Miss boosters pay off for that pre-season ranking?
They have a stud quarterback (projected #1 pick in 2 years) who is a junior this year. Throw in a better than average line and the easier SEC schedule rotation and they're in the top 10. Give them a little luck against Bama or LSU and they might be higher than that.
Yeah but Ole Miss sucks
It is probably the most beautiful college campus in the south. Beautiful women and relaxed alcohol rules enforcement make it a great game day stop.
But yeah, it sucks otherwise.
But yeah, it sucks otherwise.
It is nice campus, but I didn't care for the social vibe
I mainly say it sucks because when my school's team finally got good and started beating them every year, they dropped us from the schedule
Miss St. did too -- I understand, both those schools have tough SEC games to play and don't need another rivalry game out of conference
But fuck them, those fucking losers

So where is your team on the list?
Or do we need to find a different list?
Or do we need to find a different list?
LOL -- my team makes the top 25 once every 4 or 5 years, and usually for about a week
They haven't been much good since Brett Favre graduated

Holy moly. A good friend of mine graduated from SM. Or S & M U as we used to call it.
I went to a game with him a couple of years ago. That campus is nothing to be ashamed of either.

It had some nice trees but some of the ugliest buildings I have ever seen
What sucked about getting dropped from Ole Miss and Miss State's schedule is they were big games for us, in-state rivalry games
Without an in-state rival, you just run out of reasons to get excited, and you end up playing team like Colorado and Louisville, which are geographically irrelevant to the alumni and student body
Being in the south and not being in the SEC leaves you out in the cold

Actually I thought S.Carolina had one of the prettiest campuses in the south
Carolina has an attractive main campus but the city is growing up around it and the university has had to expand away from the center. Prettiest campus is a toss up between UGA and Vandy IMO.
I don't even follow USM anymore really -- the program got stale
It put together a lot of 7-4 seasons, but that was from beating same 7 shitty teams every year and losing to the same 4 good ones
They really needed genuine in-state rivalries to generate any excitement, but the other two schools had nothing to gain from it, so they pulled out
It's a little depressing -- that stadium rarely gets more than 1/3 capacity now, and they only play @ 3 home games a year, and no one really cares

Who are you talking about?
USM, aka, S & M U
Just kidding. But you are right about 1 thing. It sucks to have a team in the south that is not a member of the SEC. Even the lower tier schools get to see some first class football when the big boys come to town.
the big boys
Even within the SEC, there big boy and little boys -- State and Ole Miss are usually at or near the bottom
That's why is was frustrating when they quit playing USM -- as if they were too good for the 3rd school, when in fact they were the pansies of the SEC
As a result, we have this train wreck of a conference
19. Florida State 0-0 371
20. North Carolina 0-0 293
20. North Carolina 0-0 293
hmmm. this could be interesting.
I didn't know Tulane University was in your division.
You know if they had built that school after construction of I-10 it would have been called Fourlane University.
True fact.

Vanderbilt pissed me off when they ended their run of playing either TSU or MTSU.
So we play Furman or W. Carolina instead.
Who cares?
Build the state rivalries.
Create something that people care about.
hahaha. only a vandy guy would describe playing MTSU as building a rivalry.
Does it really matter who you lost to spitty? A L is a L no matter who hangs it on you.
Oh you guys are rough
Roll with it spitty
You're such a putz
But oddly enough, that was a big difference -- the northern schools in the state looked like the private high schools so many of their students came from
The funky one down near the coast looked more like that state itself

And Brett Favre played there
When my dad went to that same school, Ray Guy was the punter
TAKE THAT MOTHERFUCKERS, RAY MOTHERFUCKING GUY, THE PUNTER
WHO WAS YOUR PUNTER?!?!
Oh, and a guy I was in a band with had been the field goal kicker the year prior

I witnessed Ray Guy kick a football over the high school in Thompson GA.
It was the social event of the year.

Yea even as a huge Gator fan, I do not believe that. He'll leave when he's sees a much larger paycheck, and when he gets tired of winning at UF and wants a challenge.

how much is larger? already pointed out that ND cant/wont pay him more than florida can afford. just reinforcing the point.
Who says it will be about the money? Urban probably has all he needs already.
He's gone. Might as well get used to the idea.

ya. gone. first coach in the history of college football to leave after winning 3 of 4 national titles to a 7-6 team. sounds fun.

rivalry was probably the wrong word.
i just meant giving the regional teams from smaller conferences a shot at a big game would actually mean something.
granted, i grew up more of a basketball guy which is a sport where the big name college typically has schedule room to play the regional little guys.
i always liked that.
my view of sports is a little different than most i think.
the community aspect of it is a huge interest to me.
anyway, yeah yeah yeah making fun of vanderbilt football.
and then we debate private school and small enrollment and the money they rake in for being everybody's favorite homecoming game.
and then i make the joke about hanging your school's diploma from the rear view mirror so you can park in the handicap spots.
That's just it. How can he improve on what he has already done at Florida? And after a while it is no longer about money, especially if you already have all you can spend.
A fresh challenge with the school that has arguably the greatest history and definitely the largest national following in the country. If he takes them to the top he becomes a legend in the game. Might be a challenge that is hard to resist.

Eh, I think that if you're going to play cupcakes, you may as well play regional cupcakes. So I don't really mind the idea of Vandy playing MTSU, especially since they're playing WCU instead.
'swhy I like the Battle for the Tiger Rag coming back, and LSU occasionally playing LaTech/ULL (though all three in one season? Really?)

I doubt at this point in his career he feels like he has anything else to prove.
If I were him, I'd just start piling on the cash and see how big the mountain can get.
I'd say the only thing he can do to prove anything else is schedule four hard non-conference games, but that's dangerous in a stupid BCS system.

You still in Louisiana?
Nope. I'm out in Eugene for grad school for the next few years.
Does mean I'll get to catch LSU-UW though. Probably be the only person in the stadium in the good purple & gold.

One of my best friends just left Oregon after teaching there for 11-12 years.
Interesting place. Good beer. Great pho shop somewhere near the university.

Enjoy your SEC games starting at 10am.

LSU doesn't yet have a game scheduled before 4PDT, and any marquee SEC games not involving them won't be in the morning, so I'm okay.
Last year, it actually was more noticeable with the Saints. I often had eggs Benedict and beer at 10am watching NFL at the bar.

that was a condensed version of the cliched vanderbilt football conversation.
way to get it.
