i had those before. lamb of god are great, shadows fall were pretty cool as well. atreyu werent really to my taste but i think they are pretty solid, if a little done before. 

If you like Dream Theater, check out Pain of Salvation. They're like the Swedish counterpart to DT. Totally kick ass.

And Savatage was the most awesome metal band ever.

Alex Webster from Corpse is a beast. The guy from Dimmu Borgir is really good also, and so is the dude from Cephalic Carnage. I'm glad to see someone else listens to Nile too, great stuff. Sarcophagous makes me wanna cream my pants

System of a Down's 1st self titled album is good....very metal-esque and AMAZING(!!11!) vocals. It's nothing like their newer stuff. If you want a fun and interesting listen, download it.

Can't think of what genre theyre in....i guess its Nu Metal but its more like heavy metal minus the scratchy voiced singer and repetitive guitar riffs, and replaced with melody and unique guitarwork.

lamb of god were pretty good, but i am am the type of guy who needs to put the tunes on his mp3 player and go outside, listen to the album once all the way through on my mp3 player then decide. i just did that with dr satans earlier recommendation (didnt like the first one, am tryng their second effort now) and after an initial listen on the mp3 player i can say its good stuff. bit TOO much like emperor though.

the only reason i didn't mention them is because I consider them more progressive than metal and everyone in this thread was talking about stuff with screaming/growling vocals and DT is just out there on the total opposite end of the metal spectrum. They're still my favorite band, and no matter what I listen to I always find myself drawn back to DT. I just picked up their Budokan DVD and its amazing. Even better than the Scenes from NY dvd. Not only are these guys musical geniouses but they're funny as hell in real life as you can see in the behind the scenes on the dvd. Petrucci even makes a reference to the christopher walken cowbell skit from SNL.
