You're like the Homo-erotic son I never had.
Homo-erotic
God it's like that's Pee-Wee's secret word of the day but the day just won't fucking end.
the vines had one metal tune 'get free'. apart from that i wouldnt class them as metal. but do what you like...........
as for production of mayhem/emperor, have you heard 'a grand declaration of war' or 'chimera'? as for the old stuff yeah it sounds awful but hearing those songs played live shows just how brutal they could have been had they been recorded now.

can we get back to metal please?!
man i'm fuckin surprised this thread wasnt around a long time ago, its about time its here tho.
metal is just fuckin beautiful i dont care how gutteral it is or how brutal the music is, it is case n point music to your fuckin ears.
as far as the people who arent huge metal heads or on their way there, just a buncha bands you should definitely have in your repetoire of listening to.
Dimmu Borgir
Testament
Vader
Carcass
Behemoth (new one is fuckin sweeeeeet)
Carpharnaum
Cattle Decapitation
Cryptopsy
Fear Factory (I dont care what anyone says, ff are the shit - totally need a listen to 'Archetype' or 'Obsolete')
God Forbid (Determination especially)
Burn the Priest/Lamb of God (without question a total breakthrough for the late 90s)
Machine Head
Mastodon
Meshuggah (Leviathon is def up for grabs for album of 2004)
Necrophagist (one of the best technical death metals out there in my opinion)
Soilwork
Slayer
Suffocation
The Black Dahlia Murder
The Crown
The Red Chord
Unearth
PsyOpus (not necessarily metal, but the band is just orgasmic in any and all ways - fucking to Ideas of Reference is a whole experience)
theres plenty more bands to take a listen to, and if your not really into metal it takes some time to sink in and get used to.
anybody else that wants to add on to the list, go right ahead... theres plentyyyyyy of black metal and thrash and speed that I didnt even include and some of the shit is more hardcore or whatever, but definite metal influences.

i got that mastodon one ages ago and couldnt get into it. is it worth getting again? maybe i just wasnt in the mood at the time.
and definitely check them out again - totally worth another listen.
check leviathon for sure but also remission.
The Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth, and Terror just played. BDM totally stole the show in my opinion. Unearth was pretty sick too.
It took me a minute to get into Leviathon too.
It took me a minute to get into Leviathon too.
first thing i wanna know is - where have all the bands gone?
What the hell? About 60% (I took that from nowhere, but majority anyways) of bands here are metal. Children of Bodom, HIM, Nightwish, Amorphis, Apocalyptica, Stratovarius, Finntroll, Impaled Nazarene, Sonata Arctica, Charon, Diablo, The 69 Eyes, To/Die/For, Sentenced, Mokoma, Ensiferum, Sinergy, Blake, Chaosbreed etc just to name few that came first in my mind.
Has no-one said Motorhead yet? Did I miss that? Lemmy would kick all these dudes asses and then go back to his bourbon and crank.
And, as far as AILDying, I picked up Frail Words Collapse a while back. I really liked it for like, 2 weeks. For some reason, it didn't have much staying power. Maybe it's the emo lyrics. I dunno. But go listen to more Slayer, while you're at it, everyone.

I used to like metal in the time when Ozzy, Megadeth and Metallica were all "Metal" before they all started putting out Rock albums and metal died the self absorbed whiny death it deserved.
These days I can't relate to music produced by guys who dress like dead clowns and pretend they're minions of satan like that's a good thing.
Oh, and wiggle almost has a point about women and guitar-driven music in general. Though I can't remember which it was, one of the members of metallica is on record saying that the biggest change for Metallica when they released the Black album was that the women who started coming to their concerts actually looked LIKE women. Hehe.
I've moved on to industrial and techno mainly. Flame away for that :P

Can someone tell me any other bands that are either progressive metal (Opeth-ish) or melodic metal (umm... Killswitch Engage). I can "stand" and even "like" any metal that has some melodic singing in it, so I'm looking for more.
Check out Into Eternity, Katatonia, Insomnium, Dark Tranquility, In Flames and maybe even Porcupine Tree.
You might actually want to look into power metal or gothic metal if "melodic" vocals are your thing.
Strapping Young Lad is pretty good too..
Heck yeah, their bassist is touring with FF.
He's about 5 feet tall, 300 pounds, just square.
all metal bassists are giant killers
do you agree?
in partcular - david vincent, nile's bassist, arch enemy's bassist to name but a few

I miss Rayna from Coal Chamber.
i met her backstage ozzfest 98. she wasnt all that. pretty damn ugly up close. her replacement was way fitter. tarrie b was butt ugly up close too. the fittest bird in metal was the girl from senser. way fit. also the strippers cradle of filth had at their show were pretty hot too. i also loved the bird out of pist.on

New one is meh. There's still lots of cheese in the lyrics, which makes it hard to listen. The riffs are better than anything since Rust in Peace. The solos are done by Chris Poland, and some of them have a dated feel to them, while others don't stand out in the same way.
Their best? Rust in Peace. If the production on Peace Sells was better, it might be a contender.
very nice. are they any good?
Peace Sells, but no one's buying.
As I Lay Dying is hardcore. and they are all christian. awesome band, though. they play here in idaho a lot because thye have friends up here.
and unearth puts on one hell of a live show. unearths guitarist... he's a midget. swear to god. and that guy has some of the coolest riffs I've ever heard.
been listening to a band called Behemoth, pete. the album I like is Satanica. go check it out.

I dunno. It kinda lost me after Sabbath. Are korn metal? I quite like them.
kyuss
All of their albums are pretty damn good.. Demon Cleaner is one of my most favorite songs.
as for korn they ruled back in 96. get the eponymous album and their 2nd life is peachy
99% of metal fans hate korn now, but i still give those albums a spin and rock out to them now and again. best song was 'kill you'. creepy stuff.....
