The new Baroness is the tits, definite contender for album of the year.

Got the new Slayer on at the moment, it's OK. Slayer by numbers, pretty listenable. Hasn't changed my life, but it's alright. 

The new Ahab is meh. They really didn't change anything at all from their last album. It basically sounds exactly like Call of the Wretched Sea.

Which I loved...but I'd like to hear more range from these guys. Something new. 

I know Araya was never exactly a crooner but on Christ Illusion his vocals really grate on my nerves. So he's getting old or pick any of the likely candidates for how my perception has changed- yet I still like all the old stuff :p 

the old stuff was cooler, newer at the time, his voice was in better shape and the lyric writing was way cooler. south of heaven and season have the most colorful, sinister lyrics. see born of fire

I'm not as metal as most, but I'm digging Shadows Fall's Retribution album. Did they have a lineup change recently? Because parts of this album remind me of Belladonna-era Anthrax, and I never really heard that from Shadows Fall before.

Nightfall In Middle Earth or A Twist In The Myth?

I'm pretty sure it's Nightfall, but man... so close... 

Nightfall is a classic,
so Myth.

it's like picking The Number Of The Beast as your fav Maiden album. 

Nightfall imho, though shit yeah its close. Nightfall has a little more epic feel to it with the voice acting parts and the sounds of battle- just kinda has a really cohesive vibe that carries you through the whole LP

Funny, I happen to think that Americon - along with Psychopathy Red and Playing With Dolls - is the finest track on the album. :P 

I'm actually enjoying the new Dethklok album. Brendan Small is a pretty talented guitar player. I'm quite impressed.

americon is a grower. just makes me roll my eyes a bit when araya goes 'its all about the fucking oil'. i thought we were all past that kind of stuff now (a bit 2003-4 for me. bush has gone already)

araya is actually fucking awesome on vocals on this album. i was riding my bike again today screaming GOD DID NOT DO THIS - GOD DID NOT DO THIS - GOD DID NOT DO THIS  

I like it, it's a bit 'different' Slayer track. Especially the pounding part that kicks in at 1:32, I don't know what you'd call the guitar technique there, but those high single notes... It's awesome. 

So uhh... The Blue Album by Baroness has really blown me away.

I thought the Red Album was lacking a certain magic, and that's
exactly what they've piled into this new release.
