Esoteric Doctrine..

The first song on the myspace = new york style old school death metal ala cannibal corpse.

The second song on the myspace = nu-metal singing bullshit.

The third song = deftones rip off song. Keep in mind I like the Deftones.

it was man, I wish I could figure out how to get that bass sound that he gets out of his kick drums on my set. I have yet to hear a band that can rival his kick drum sound without it sounding too triggery...

I think every metal head has heard that computer processed bass sound plenty o times. (behemoth)

This is what I like about the metal thread- once in awhile someone will post about something I'm completely unfamiliar with, and I will check it out and occasionally, like this morning, be immersed in great music listening.

Thanks for passing it on, and I will be buying this.

Definitely get the Red Album too (the last one they did), it's just as good, if not better.

Listening to Slayer's "World Painted Blood" for the first time. An okay album, but nothing really stands out. Sort of "paint-by-numbers-Slayer". Has all the elements you'd expect from a Slayer album, and nothing else. The screeching solos from Hanneman and King, the evil/murder/blood/destruction vocals from Araya and great drumming from Lombardo. Not a bad album at all, but nothing great either.

Yeah, I'm warming to it, too. Took me a few listens, though. Apart from the few songs I had heard earlier, there are a couple of real killer tracks there, namely Americon and Playing With Dolls - the latter of course being one of the least-metal-sounding song titles ever.

I don't know if you guys have ever heard of a band called ANKLA before, but they are pretty fucking awesome. They are definitely a bit more mainstream and groove oriented than some of you guys might like. I think a really good way to describe them is hatebreed from puerto rico...they incorporate a lot of latin grooves and instruments into their style. I saw them live and they were 100% go the whole time, which is what I love from any metal band...they forced you to get into the show, even if you didn't want to. I vaguely remember the lead singer saying something about how if they were gonna have a mosh pit then they needed to do it right and then jumped off the stage into the middle of the pit and started kicking ass! One thing is for sure, it's hard not to nod your head.

I didn't like too much of phils side projects either, but Down was pretty badass. I can tell you what I fucking hated, Hellyeah - the collaboration of Vinnie, mudvayne and nothingface. Those songs sounded like they were written and performed by neutered chihuahuas.
