Are there actual words to these songs? All I hear is loud barking. And the song/band titles are the most retarded collection of words i've ever seen. Is this done purposely because the songs aren't actually about anything? I don't get white people.

spyro, I bought 2 Alghazanth cds, and it's the best $40 I've spent in a while, real quality black metal 

hmmm yeah there are words it depends what genre of metal you are listening to. often death metal/black metal guys lyrics are pretty wack or pretty funny (cannibal corpse). the best ones are very powerful or go off into fantasy stuff. take the lyrics and art with a pinch of salt, what really matters is the music. the words to hip-hop lyrics are often total bullshit as well

some heavy music, well alot of heavy music, has that bullshit where all you can hear is some dude screaming. Usually it fits the style. Keep in mind that most heavy songs are about angriness, and nothing is angrier than a 500 pound dude with a mullet.

But if you want to hear a really heavy, yet really good album (with actual singing), then go buy/download 'Train of Thought' by Dream Theater. 

i love hip hop too wigs. because you are a metal fan doesnt mean you hate hip hop. often metal fans like both. however, there are times when putting on a hip hop album just doesnt do it. thats the time you need to hear some metal! 

Check out the new Megadeth. It's pretty brutal.

Of the ones ive heard, I believe that Peace sells... is the best one. I like the new one. It's pretty yummy.

I dunno if youd consider them 'death metal', due to the lack of the napalm death style singers and with crazy screaming instead, these bands have pummelled my ears senseless for the past week:

I saw Dillinger headline the other night at Slims. They were good but the lights they had on stage made everyone leave early. Seriously. 16 flood lights aimed directly into your eyeballs wherever you stood. I saw them play with Mike Patton last year though. They did that whole little 5 track ep.

Chimaira's Impossibility of Reason is one of the best metal cd's I have bought in a while.

if you're into death metal/black metal, check out dying fetus, vital remains, dimmu borgir, origin, morbid angel, shit i could go on forever... i've also been listening to a lot of meshuggah lately, really good band with some bugged out grooving rythms. I just joined a death metal band about a month ago, already have 3 songs out. Trying to go for a more progressive feel than straight grindcore/death.

I listen to everything but metal is my thing, and I don't dress in all black or wear chains. Helll, I'm not even a big guy. I go out with the most girly normal girls you could imagine, most of them hate my music lol.

Sweet Jesus yes. I love Opeth... Dr. S turned me on to them about a year ago and I now have all ( I think) their albums.

Can someone tell me any other bands that are either progressive metal (Opeth-ish) or melodic metal (umm... Killswitch Engage). I can "stand" and even "like" any metal that has some melodic singing in it, so I'm looking for more.

What are y'alls feelings on Arch Enemy?

their guitarists are pretty crzy, and so is the fact that they have a hot blonde chick singer. I give them a lot of credit but I don't listen to them too much. 

i went to see arch enemy coz they were 5 pounds a ticket a while back, before they got as big as they are now. i never heard anything by them, but damn that show was one of the best i have seen in years. just awesome showmen (and women) all of them. danny erlandsson is an amazing drummer and the woman (forget her name) sounds fucking awesome.

they are my all time favourite BM band. the last three albums will just blow you away if you care to check them out. 'chimera' 'a grand declaration of war' and 'wolf's lair abyss'. they are BM with amazing production. their drummer, hellhammer, is quite simply the fastest drummer that ever existed, and they have the dirtiest riffs out there. 

Mayhem isn't too bad, I like Emperor better though, much better production.
